Bombing and Gunnery School: A school that existed in the British Commonwealth

Air Training Plan to train men to become air bombers or air gunners, it included

air firing practice. This is where Burke Macintosh met Gibb. Raymond Massey’s brother was their CO.

 

November 1, 1943

Started B&G Air Gunner School No. 3.

 

 

 

 

November 6, 1943 

At 2:20 pm he took his first flight with Vanstone practicing on the cine camera gun

Practiced Cine Camera Gun, Air to

Ground, Tracer Demonstrations, Beam Test, Mean moving target. Going up sometimes three times a day. Pilots: Vanstone, Robinson, Stay, Huber, Blair, Crawford,Rich, Rinehart, Walker, Gostnell, Corneau, Scrimshaw, Clake, Douglas, Loveless, later, King, Rutherford, Tonrneau.

 

 

Total of 18 hours and 55 minutes December 2, 3, 5, 6, 1943 All Quarter Gross Under test.

 

Pilots: Stevenson, Douglas,

Brerenton, Hayman, Johnson, Tutherford,

 

McGee, King, Swan.

 

Total of 7 hours and 33 minutes December 10, 1943 Firing 300 rounds at night and 800 rounds in the day time. 54 rounds on the cine footage, 400 round air to ground, 400 beam test, 1400 rounds on beam moving target, 1400 quarter Cross Under, 300 air to air tracer.

Graduated from No.3 B & G School Macdonald Manitoba Receiving a mark of 74.4% with a flying time of 25.45 hours.

 

 

Medical Officer said that Gibb’s motivation was only fair. He could have got a farmer exemption but preferred to enlist. His temperament was reserved and he was fairly mature and well disciplined. Appeared to be emotionally sound and even a little

casual, but should be able to show up well if sufficiently motivated. Has good durance and stamina.
